Job Summary Supports and advances the department's mission of preventing loss of life or injury through the enforcement of laws and regulations governing fire safety, as well as the delivery of fire and life safety education to the university community. Responsibilities Inspect various occupancies for compliance with fire and life safety regulations. Receive and investigate complaints of fire hazards and alleged violations of fire regulations. Notify occupants when deficiencies and/or code violations are found and make recommendations on methods of correction and compliance. Keeps records of inspections and prepares reports. Examine plans, blueprints, tracings, sketches and specifications prior to issuance of construction permits in leased locations. Conduct presentations for the university community on various topics such as fire and life safety, hands-only CPR/first aid, evacuation training, fire extinguisher training, and fire drills. Liaise with various authorities to achieve a common goal and/or regulatory compliance, e.g. Florida State Fire Marshals Office, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, City of Miami Fire Rescue, etc. Respond to emergencies within the university community and liaise with other agencies as needed. Perform other duties as directed by the Fire Code Administrator. Perform essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma and seven (7) years of appropriate experience. Associates degree in an appropriate specialization and four (4) years of appropriate experience.
