Overview The University Of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for the Grounds Maintenance Worker 3 (Tree Crew), Facilities Management [R0151578]. The position will work with the Grounds Department assigned to tree care and will follow ANSI Standards for tree care, pruning, fertilization, planting, and removal. A valid Nevada driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition for continuing employment. Responsibilities Perform landscape, garden and greenhouse duties such as planting, pruning, mowing, trimming, watering, fertilizing, weeding and snow and ice prevention and removal. Operate hand and power tools, power mowers, tractor mowers, trenching devices, forklifts and hoists. Work with the Grounds Department assigned to tree care and follow safety standards, including knot tying for safety and, when applicable, tree climbing at heights. Learn and apply proper knot tying, tree safety, tree rescue, and herbicide and fertilizer application as required. Become familiar with power equipment such as chain saws, stump grinders, limb chippers and dump trucks. Obtain and maintain forklift operator and man lift operator licenses by the 11 month evaluation of hire and maintain throughout employment. Complete duties within the work schedule of 6:00am – 2:30pm, Monday through Friday; schedule may be adjusted to meet university needs. Preferred Qualifications One year of experience performing grounds maintenance work using a variety of tools, equipment, and techniques; OR six months of experience as a Grounds Maintenance Worker II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
