Job Title: Full-Time High School Social Studies Teacher Location: South Spencer High School Reports To: High School Principal FLSA Status: Exempt / Full-Time Terms of Employment 181 Day Contract 10 Sick Leave Days, 5 Personal Leave Days TRF Position with Certified Benefits Salary Range Based on Degree, Certification, & Experience Position Summary The high school social studies teacher will plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, college-prep, and state-standards-aligned instruction for grades 9-12. This multi-disciplinary role requires expertise in distinct social science fields, guiding students through concepts, historical inquiry, and real-world financial literacy in accordance with the Indiana Department of Education Academic Standards. Key Responsibilities By Subject AP United States History (APUSH): Deliver a rigorous College Board-approved curriculum. Train students to evaluate complex primary sources, construct evidence-based historical arguments, and prepare them to pass the cumulative AP Exam. Economics: Instruct students on microeconomic and macroeconomic principles, supply and demand models, market structures, and the role of government in the U.S. and global economic systems Psychology & Sociology: Foster critical analysis of human behavior, cognitive development, social structures, cultural norms, and societal institutions. Encourage civil discourse on modern social dynamics. Financial Responsibility: Equip students with essential life skills, including personal budgeting, managing credit and debt, understanding taxes, insurance, and long-term investing to ensure post-secondary financial literacy and responsible citizenship. General Duties Instructional Planning: Develop comprehensive syllabi, daily lesson plans, and unit structures that utilize differentiated instruction to support diverse learning needs. Assessment & Record Keeping: Administer formative and summative assessments to monitor academic growth. Maintain accurate, confidential grade and attendance records via the district's Student Information System (Harmony). Classroom Culture: Build trusting, respectful relationships with scholars and families. Establish clear, high standards for academic and behavioral expectations in a safe, inclusive environment. Stakeholder Communication: Proactively communicate with parents, guidance counselors, and administrative staff regarding student academic progress and behavioral needs. Professional Development: Collaborate with departmental peers in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and stay current with Indiana legislative changes and pedagogical trends in social studies. Qualifications & Requirements Education: Bachelor's degree in History, Social Studies Education, Economics, Behavioral Sciences, or a related field. Licensure: Valid Indiana Educator License with an appropriate content area addition (e.g., Historical Perspectives, Economics, Sociology, Psychology, or Government/Citizenship). AP Certification: College Board authorization (or willingness to complete required AP training/certification) to teach AP US History. Skills: Strong 21st-century technological skills, outstanding classroom management, and effective written and verbal communication.
