Job Title Wildlife Biologist 3 – Dillingham Area Wildlife Biologist (PCN 112069) Location: Dillingham, AK Job Description Full‑time position within the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation. Responsibilities Manage terrestrial wildlife across Northern Bristol Bay (≈20,000 square miles). Oversee the Mulchatna caribou herd and administer hunting and trapping seasons. Address nuisance wildlife and public safety issues, providing expert guidance on populations and conservation. Collect harvest information and coordinate licenses, permits, and data for bears, caribou, and moose. Conduct wildlife surveys, investigations, and capture/handling of wildlife. Produce reports, analyze data, and develop technical reports. Supervise one Wildlife Biologist II and one Program Technician. Work Environment Frequent travel throughout the management area and across the state. Firearm proficiency and ability to fly small fixed‑wing and rotor aircraft in mountainous terrain. Required Competencies Design and implement effective wildlife management programs for large game populations. Capture, immobilize, and examine large mammals. Perform data analysis, population modeling, and set sustainable harvest goals. Communicate complex regulatory issues orally and in writing. Additional Certifications and Licenses Valid driver’s license. Access to firearms/ammunition. Federal (FAA) pilot license and compliance with the State of Alaska aviation manual (recommended). State of Alaska Peace Officer certification (recommended). Animal capture and immobilization certification; animal welfare training and certification. Certification as a Wildlife Biologist by a professional society (recommended). Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in biology, limnology, biometrics, oceanography, forestry, or natural resource management. One year of professional biologist‑level experience (e.g., Fishery Biologist II, Wildlife Biologist II, Habitat Biologist II, Fisheries Geneticist I). A degree supplemented with the required credit hours (minimum 24 in biology or related field plus 12 in supporting sciences) is an acceptable substitution.
